I'm hep c free 12 weeks post treatment undetectable
« on: March 31, 2018, 07:01:01 pm »
I'm so happy to be free. Now i need to deal with all the damage it has caused. My doctor never told me to change my diet but after reading some of these forums sounds like I need to. I'm curious to what supplements you guy's  take for better liver health. I was diagnosed about last summer  with hep c. My doctor says I'm between F3/F4 fibroscan was 18/fibrosure was F3 All my blood work is normal, platelets are above 230 and I feel pretty good. How often is a fibroscan recommended after treatment?

I don’t have a special diet or take anything at all except a low dose blood pressure medicine. I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis with liver biopsy in January 2008.

What I do need to do for better liver health is lose some excess weight and get some exercise.

I m doing blood testing to include AFP and abdominal ultrasounds every 6 months. I see my liver doctor at UW liver every year. I also have now every 2 years an upper endoscopy which is reduced from every year due to previously having had grade 3 esophageal varicies that needed banding back in 2012 but so far I have not had any reoccurrence.

I had a pre treatment Fibroscan which was 27 and another one at 2 years post it was 33. We have no schedule for any future Fibroscans.

I have a platelet count post treatment of about 110 which is improved from pre treatment about 80 to 90 range. I suppose if my platelets ever increase we might do a Fibroscan to see if anything is noticeable. But really a Fibroscan is not important it won’t provide any important information and won’t change my follow on plan going forwards.

Congrats on being cured, Ntwobad!! Great feeling, isn't it? I don't do much with supplements. I am a big believer in healthy, unprocessed, organic food. Don't eat from cans or boxes or fast food. Lots of fruits, veggies, some grain. I carefully source my meat, dairy & eggs so they come from pastured, grass-fed, free-range sources. And be sure to get some exercise every day. A nice 30-min walk is good. I think these sorts of basic lifestyle measures will do more for your liver than vitamins or supplements.
