My journey begins
« on: May 29, 2018, 04:05:51 pm »
Have been reading forums for the past few months, and it's been extremely helpful and my favorite source of peace, actually. But maybe it's time to share my story and hear your thoughts.

Got diagnosed with HepC in January as part of the routine physical exam. Went in to check my cholesterol, and my doctor said, something's off with your liver readings. I've heard this before over the years of annual exams, but the readings were never as high as this year, and my previous physicians thought it was just alcohol (even though I always told them I don't drink at all) or Tylenol I sometimes took for pains from running. So she ordered new tests, suspecting it might be HepC, and yep, it was. Wow - what the what?

No symptoms prior to that whatsoever, but I suspect I had HepC for 20 years now after playing with drugs and sadly few used needles for a short period of just few weeks in high school.

In shock, I found a specialist who sent me for more tests, and luckily for me, I'm in fibrosis Stage 2, no cancer, etc. Glad they found it at this stage. I'm type 1a, and I think I have 11M viral load? Not sure what that means or if it matters.

Doctor prescribed Mavyret and on Friday I got a call from my insurance (Blue Shield in California) that they approved me for coverage. Now I'm waiting to hear from specialized pharmacy (they're supposed to call me, right?) and can hopefully start the 8-week treatment soon. I wonder how long it takes for the drugs to ship?

So far keeping my spirits high and health wise all looks good, and I'm getting ready to run another marathon this weekend. So no other changes to my life, except something that I can't stop thinking and worrying about just about any free minute I have during the day.

Anyone else in the similar boat right now?
