Almost 2 months ago my family and I caught a stomach virus.  We went to the doctor and the doctor wanted to clear rest of hepatitis A so all four of us had blood work done doctor called us back and told me that she was very confused because I tested positive for hepatitis B but I only tested positive on one part of the three panel test.  So during that time we were in the process of moving and two months later I found my new primary care doctor she tested me because I told her what happened and she also had me testedamd I was  positive for hepatitis B.  She too is stumped on how I possibly could have gotten it but she referred me to a G.I. doctor. Here are my test results.

Hep B antibody total = non reactive
Hep B antibody IGM = reactive
Hep b surface antibody = non reactive
Hep b surface antigen = non reactive
AST = Normal range at 20
ALT =  normal range at 29

How in the hell is my anti-body total non-reactive but IGM reactive?

Working my way through your test results but really I’m as confused as you are hep b is somewhat difficult to understand and diagnose based on lab tests.

Your best bet is to see the gastroenterologist or maybe an infectious disease specialist for a proper interpretation of your test results.

Good luck

No I had hep C and I do have cirrhosis. Not a lot of hep B people here. Lucinda is a nurse and may have more knowledge about how to diagnose hep B and understanding test results.

You can look at some of the old posts in the hep b forum you may gain some more information there.
