“ Your testing positive for hepatitis B won’t keep you from getting a student visa. Nor will it keep you from getting an immigrant visa (green card) should you ever qualify. Applicants for student visas, visitors’ visas, temporary work visas and other nonimmigrant visas usually are not tested for communicable diseases. In any event, having tested hepatitis B-positive is not a bar to getting a visa or entering the United States. The bar for communicable diseases for green card applicants applies only to diseases of “public health significance.” That includes chancroid, gonorrhea, infectious leprosy, infectious syphilis and active tuberculosis.”
