Leg cramps from Harvoni?
« on: June 18, 2015, 06:26:46 am »
I've only taken three doses so far but every morning I've been waking up with major cramps in my calves??? Really weird. Other than this I have zero side effects.
I've been drinking over a gallon of water a day since starting so I don't think I'm dehydrated. Anyone else have or heard of this?

Jeffry1970 -
I was experiencing achiness/discomfort throughout my body, mainly in my legs.
A month or so ago, BubbaT had posted - drinking fresh lemon water. (http://forums.hepmag.com/index.php?topic=2577.msg19342#msg19342)

Also, read some of the posts under under "RA and Hepatitis C":

I know potassium is suppose to help with leg cramps (bananas, are a good source).

Before getting out of bed, try doing some gentle, slow stretches... not just for your legs, but all over.

I hope this info helps you get relief! Keep us posted.  :)

Blessings,

It's not a big deal and it happens at night when I'm sleeping I just found it odd. I've  been filling a gallon jug in the morning with water and a lemon so I can keep track of how much I drink. I have been doing a morning stretching routine every day for over 30 years so I'm not used to getting cramps like that.
I will check out the links and thanks for the info.

Was having leg and feet cramps before harvoni, but it is a lot worse every night and sometimes day. Doctor says take magnesium a lot of it can't over do it, recommends SR ( slow release ) Mag-Tab SR Magnesium Supplement. Not all magnesium is the same, their about 4 types. Helped a little.

The cramps seem to come in waves, few one day, a lot the next 3 or 4 days then a day or two of relief. But every one's body is different.

Two topical essential oils can help:

Rosemary essential oil (very effective for pregnant women)

and purple chamomile (sold as Injury Oil), miraculous stuff

Someone told me it could be due to all the water I'm drinking. Right joe I'm drinking over a gallon of water with lemon daily. They said I could be flushing potassium and magnesium from my body which could be causing the cramps.

That's entirely possible. Check with your doctor to gauge the correct water intake based on your weight. You could drink an electrolyte to see if that helps. Increase your consumption of bananas and potatoes. Several people have reported potassium-related side effects on this site, though typically the problem is too much potassium.
