Hello and some questions
« on: November 13, 2013, 09:33:23 am »
Hi  I am new to here . Background  57 year old female with Hep C genotype 4 ( no known event but must have been picked up  in Africa between 2006 and 2009 )   I started dual treatment with an initial viral load on 3 million and it dropped to 25 k in 6 weeks.  Unfortunately it started to climb after that  ( last load was 350k )  My insurance now wants to cut off the medication.  Not being a genotype 1  I can't get triple drug treatment and  from what I read the "new" drugs are also for genotype 1 or treatment naive genotype 4 ( which means I am not eligible)   Any good ideas  ?

Welcome to the forum, and I am sorry you need to be here.  I agree that you should cease the treatment.  If it is not working, it is not working.  What kind of shape is your liver in?  I would also find a specialist and ask for guidance. -jack

Thanks for the welcome and reply,  liver is in very good shape ( considering ) a bit fatty but no other issues found.   At what point are clinical trails a "good" option ?

Here is some background on Clinical Trials...

Hepatitis Clinical Trials: An Introduction
http://www.hepmag.com/articles/hepatitis_clinical_trial_21799.shtml

There are many options in the pipeline and genotype 4 is in the mix with some of them. The new Janssen drug Sovriad (also known as simeprevir and TMC435) is been tested in genotype 4 but we need to wait for the official approval coming later this year to know if genotype 4 is approved or still being tested.

New TMC435 Trials Open for Hep C Patients With Genotype 1 and 4

Keep watching for news as things are moving quickly now and with your liver being in good shape hopefully something will be approved in time to help keep it that way.
