What would you find helpful?
« on: June 17, 2014, 11:03:07 pm »
Good Evening everyone-

My husband has been recently diagnosed with HEP C.  He has had all his blood work confirming the diagnosis. Now, he has been referred to the GI and awaiting his results from his sonogram last week.

My question is what would you suggest to be the most helpful from your family and friends?

Currently I have been reading and filling myself with knowledge.  I am believer that knowledge is power and knowing if half the battle.  I accompany him to his appointments as well as cook healthy meals.  I find being a good listener is very helpful.  It can be challenging at times because I want to fix everything, however I am learning to be still.

What did you find most helpful from your partners, family and friends?

Thank you in advance for your time and I wish everyone the very best!

Humblest Regards,

Hopeful2014

What a thoughtful spouse you are! I wish more people would be this curious. There are probably many answers to your question. Some of us don't like to be treated any differently when we have hep C; some want special attention. Some of us may have contradictory responses as to what might be helpful. For instance, I don't like calling attention to my illness, so I underplayed how poorly I felt during treatment. Then I got frustrated when people expected more of me. In short, sometimes we don't know what we need.
It is a safe bet that listening is a great gift to give someone with hep C.
