I feel fine . I had a few bouts of side effects that lasted a week each time from rash, itching, shortness of breathe and sensitivity to the sun but as far as the virus goes I never had any effects of the virus and the only way I knew I had it was yearly blood work that showed elevated liver enzymes. My doctor was pretty sharp and had me go for the test and I was shocked I had it since I do not fall into any of the lifestyle categories .

Hi Steve,

I know you didn't mean it this way: But the term "lifestyle categories" can be offensive to some Hep-Cers. An infection can occur in variegated ways, including blood transfusions, a needle prick, surgery and, in your case, a mystery infection.

In fact I know a couple of army medics who were infected, treating wounded soldiers in the fields of Vietnam. I also met a vet who most likely acquired his infection scrubbing blood off the floor and walls of a medivac copter.

Just wanted to point this out,

I understand, Steve.

It might be better to say "known infection category" or "risk factor." Lifestyle can have a negative connotation for some.

When I was diagnosed, the doctor walked in to the room and asked: Are you a homosexual or drug users? I said no. Then he said: you have tested positive for Hep-C.

The mode of infection is irrelevant - knowing that you have it and getting cured is.

Best wishes Steve and congrats on being undetected!

I was relieved that my husband & kids didn't have it, noteworthy-all my 3 kids Xi adopted. But "lifestyle" aka social stigma has forced me to keep to myself.  My own husband said that interracial sex was a common cause, seriously!!!  I guess I should mention he's a 60 year old from Italy basically a dinosaur.  My children are very intelligent but my daughter threw her pop away when I accidentally drank from her cup, hurts. Never used intervenes  drugs but hey I'm done speculating. I told my family I'm done with the hiding, my hair is falling out and they can tell who they want. No one, regardless of past choices should have to suffer and it's time we help educate people.

I've felt the same way. I never told anyone but my family that I had Hep-C because of the social stigma associated with the diagnosis. That's why this forum is so beneficial. I can finally share the experience without the stigma.

When I did VA work, every once in a while I would work with a vet who was Hep-C positive and could talk to them about it. It was few and far between; but it was nice to know I wasn't suffering by myself and that there were others in the same boat.
