Helping others understand side effects come and go
« on: September 07, 2014, 07:23:41 pm »
Hi

I live a very chaotic life. Get up at 5am work a 10 hour day come home cook dinner clean do laundry and take care of twin 2 year grandsons until their bed time 9pm.  This is basically my weekly schedule. The weekends consist of more laundry cleaning and babysitting we also do the shopping for the week.  Im exhausted plus the stress of it all on top of the meds.  Some of the people in my life think since I'm already on week six my side effects should be over and all that I'm going to experience should be done and out of the way. I'm not finding this to be true of course.  I've tried to explain this is not ordinary meds and it doesn't work that way. Why doesn't it? Does anyone else have certain people that you just can't explain this to? Just feeling frustrated and i need a break. I guess i just needed to vent.  Thanks for listening.

Hi virgha828,  You sure are one strong person to keep up with that schedule. You need more sleep and less stress. If I may ask, would the person/people that don't understand be able to help with some of your responsibilities if they did understand?

virgha828,
WOW... I thought I was busy!! :-) I don't have any grandkids to take care of, but everything else is similar. However, I am in the middle of helping my daughter plan her wedding (OK... I'm doing most of it LOL) that is in 2 months!

I was wondering about the side effects coming and going. Some days I have more energy than I have had in years, and the next I can't seem to keep my eyes open. I'm glad you vented, because you helped me realize I wasn't alone! :-)

Hi Virgha,
Your life seems chaotic only because your taking this treatment. I am doing the same things I normally do since before starting treatment. Go to work, driving 45 minutes each way. Come home and spend time with the Grandkids. Take out the garbage, clean up after the kids leave, etc..... I don't do most cooking thank God. I choose not to do more because of the treatment now, but everything seems not as fun, and I feel I have to force myself to do what has to be done, I have a different attitude that is not as positive. I want to just plop down and stay there, but that is not the suggested way to be. It would be nice to get some help, or time off but in the long run trying to stay normal while your mind is pulling , is the best thing to do. It will be over soon, and cure will be on your Dr report.

Hi you all.

Every one of you made my evening. I actually smiled and i do feel allot better.  I was definitely having a "poor me" moment! After a weekend of babysitting i was feeling very run down and boo hooish.  Also my family relies on me for allot. This is just my life at this point wether i'm treating or not.  Im so grateful to have some place to turn and such awesome people to be able to just vent to.
I actually would love a gym membership ! Thank you all for your positive  thoughts, we will all soon be done with treatment , cured and back into a better frame of mind!!!
Thank you  Virginia :)

FYI,
I have a gym membership, and even just 30 minutes of cardio actually makes the day go better. It is noticeable after you break a sweat, you get a little more vibrant. So Willie is really right-on.

Wow, you are awesome!  But, really take time for YOU.   Tell everyone these meds are like chemotherapy.  They are additive, and the side effects get stronger the longer you take them.  People usually get the chemo analogy.

Hi

I would not say awesome just very busy and relied upon.  The way you put the meds i think they would get it. It basically would let ghem know that the meds are no picnic. I think my sides are more on the mind games side and def fatigue. More the last week ( week 6) then any other time. Willie, you have made me laugh out loud more than once over the weeks.  You keep things on the lighter side which can be a much needed moment!

When this is over and some life situations resolve i am going to the gym! I hope you all are doing well and counting down!

Thanks  all for your suggestions
