Maine recently had a big hepatitis A scare.

When asked about it, Governor Paul LePage said: “I have been trying to get the president to pay attention to the illegals in our country because there’s been a spike in hepatitis C, tuberculosis and HIV, but it’s going on deaf ears.”

Here's why he's wrong:

I am sorry Editors, but I don't agree with you 100%.

Hey Bucky! TB is indeed a risk for international travelers (along with African Americans, Children, Incarcerated People and Homeless individuals in the U.S.) but rates overall are in fact, falling in the United States:

According to the data page from the CDC link you sent along: http://www.cdc.gov/tb/statistics/default.htm

A total of 9,582 TB cases (a rate of 3.0 cases per 100,000 persons) were reported in the United States in 2013. Both the number of TB cases reported and the case rate decreased; this represents a 5.4% and 6.1% decline, respectively, compared to 2012.

;)
