Hey DD I was wondering why you are on 24 weeks, I started 12 weeks of harvoni on Dec 26th.  So far so good, headaches which are not too bad, but joints really hurt bad, hope that goes away quick.

CE - That is GREAT NEWS!! Congrats and what a great way to start 2015!!!

DD - When are you scheduled to get your first VL? Congrats for being on the magic Orange Pill!!

Teddi - Welcome to the Harvoni party! Drink lots of water and that really helps with my headaches. I am many weeks into treatment and still get body aches but I think mine is more from Cirrhosis vs the Harvoni. If I get up and move, talk some walks it seems to help me!

Wishing, hoping and praying for SVR to everyone is 2015!!

Hi Teddi,

I have been on various Interferon-based treatments for more than 220 weeks since 1991...and still looking for the "cure".

I'm on 24 weeks Harvoni due to my long history of responding really well to treatment (early UD), only to relapse shortly after the treatment completes.

Harvoni looks like it may be the "real deal", and 8 to 12 weeks seems to be the typical duration successful treatment.

However there are apparently a few indications that a 24-week course of treatment with Harvoni could improve the chances of getting rid of Hep-C for a small number of patients, like myself.

...not sure if the above helps, since I have no idea what the criteria is for deciding between 8, 12 and 24 weeks.

Hi Mel,

I'm just wrapping up week 4, and will have my 1st blood work this Friday.  Early days yet for me.  However I'm enjoying the positive "energy" here on these forums!

Hello all,

I'm on week 5 of Harvoni. I have had some bloodwork, but have not received the complete results yet. I have an appt this Wednesday Jan 7. They did tell me that my liver enzymes were normal after 2 weeks on product. That is a first for me ever. My liver enzymes have always been 8-10 times higher than normal for at least 30 years.
So, looks like it's working nicely. As far as side effects, I essentially don't have much of anything. I get tired about an hour after I take product. So, I take it in the evening and go to bed. I get up in the morning and feel normal.

I wonder if the product makes people's eyes dialate as I seem more sensitive to light. My doctor told me to be sure and put on sunscreen.

Only other thing is at first I was having very strange dreams. He said that's a typical side effect of anti viral medicines in general.

Hopefully, Express scripts won't screw me around after I've been approved. I would expect them to honor the approval. I was approved before they had the AbbieV announcement. I have picked up 2 bottles and have only one left to get.

I'll be in touch as the week goes by.

Hey DD good luck with the 24 weeks I was a non responder as well, was on interferon combo for 6 months, boy did that suck, maybe 10 years ago.  My doctor who is the same one from then seems very laid back about this treatment.  He says some doctors are doing blood work at 2 weeks others at 4 weeks.  That makes no sense to me, he opted for 4 weeks, fine with me.  Thursday will be 2 weeks for me and I honestly have little or no side effects, headaches, but I always had them anyway, joints ache a little more than normal, no big deal, I'm alive and kicking.  The water thing is big, never drank so much in my life, good habit to get into.  Good luck and keep me posted.

Possible Additional Side Effects

Has anyone experienced very high, prolonged fever and fatigue? My husband started on Harvoni two months ago, and, at first, all was well, except for a slight headache. Since last Monday, he has had a fever that fluctuates between 101 and 104, abd is responsive to fever reducers. He has no other symptoms and does not seem to have the flu.

I would definitely go to the doctor and get checked. I would think that after 8 weeks he would already be undetected and this wouldn't have anything to do with Harvoni. You didn't mention if he was or not but most people have cleared the virus by week 8.  You also don't want to take too many fever reducers without seeing a doctor and getting guidance, they can be tough on the liver.

You also didn't mention if he has cirrhosis or the status of his liver so the fatigue could be related to cirrhosis, I know I have fatigue but I had it before I started treatment and it's actually much better as the virus is cleared.

Hope he feels better soon!
