Harvoni question
« on: December 31, 2014, 04:00:57 pm »
First I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year!! I know we are all going to have a great year Hep free. My question is does anyone know what cough medication can be taken with Harvoni. My granddaughter just got over the flu and I am starting with a cough. The pharmacy I use is closed for the holiday. Has anyone taken cough or cold medication while on Harvoni? I am just so afraid to take something that will mess with the drugs potency. If anyone has been in this situation or knows what is OK to take please let me know. Thank you, Amy

Hi Amy,

Any decent pharmacist can look this up for you if you can't get in contact with your doctor.  I personally have not had to take any type of cough medication or cold medication since I have been on treatment as of yet. Perhaps you can get by with some tea and honey until you can get in contact with your doctor. They should have someone who can call you back if you can't wait until Friday to get in contact with them.

I am also very very cautious about taking anything during treatment, even Tylenol isn't good, a tums you have to wait at least 3,4 hours to take.

Lucinda shared a great place to look at for interactions: go to: http://www.hep-druginteractions.org/interactions.aspx

Hope you feel better soon,

Mel

Thank you Mel, I am going to take your advice and try to hold out till they are back. There is an emergency number that I felt funny calling but  If I have to I will. I do not want to chance taking anything I shouldn't. Tea and honey is a good idea. Thank you for that link it is very helpful and thank you for the advice, hope you have a great new year, Amy.
