Sofosbuvir and ribavirin Clinical Trial in Australia
« on: January 16, 2015, 09:03:07 pm »
I have just seen and made an expression of interest in a trial being held here in Australia for the above drugs and issued by the  U.S. National Institutes of Health.
Am Hep C/HIV genotype 3, treatment naive and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this before I take the next step.
Side effects, effectiveness etc.....

Like the old march chant

ACT UP, FIGHT BACK, FIGHT AIDS,  to that I add FIGHT HEP C

You can do it and you can cure your hep c

AASLD American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases  the current recommendation for HCV /HIV I have attached a link
http://www.hcvguidelines.org/node/76

here are some clinical trial results look for Photon 1 and 2 your results depend alot on your genotype but for genotype 1 I am seeing 85 %.

http://depts.washington.edu/hepstudy/presentations/uploads/92/sofosbuvirmaster.pdf

Sovaldi does not have a lot of side effects for most Ribavirin will tend to reduce hemoglobin levels so you will be monitored but in a clinical trial you are closely monitored anyway.

Good Luck

FIGHT BACK!

Hi Lynn K,

That was a very interesting read thank you.
My GP had made it quite clear that they would hold off putting me on any trials for GT 3 until they saw conversion rates in the mid to high 90's.
From the information you attached it looks to me like this is not the case however I will still go speak to the specialist and see what he says.

And a very, very big congratulations to you and your results.

Hi Tomcat

You probably noticed those links are from the American Association for the study of liver diseases and the University of Washington in Seattle.

I have been a null responder to the old interferon meds where my odds were about 30%. I last treated with Sovaldi and Olysio where for me the odds were about 85%. I relapsed so I am treating again. I just keep on fighting.

But the choice is between you and your doctor. I keep trying but that is just who I am sometimes it could be prudent to wait just not my style especially since I have cirrhosis I have to get rid of hep c while I still can.

Knowledge is power to make an informed decision.

Best of luck to you
