Just started Harvoni...what time of day is best to take it?
« on: March 06, 2015, 01:21:42 pm »
Hi all...I just started my Harvoni, 2 days ago.  I just popped it as soon as it came in the mail, but am wondering if taking it at night is better than during the day.  I do get a little groggy, and but am worried if I take it at night, it will disturb my sleep.  Anyone have trouble taking it at night?

Sure hope it clears me...I did try interferon and ribavirin, with boseprevir in a trial a few years back, but had to stop because of the side effects.   So far with Harvoni, no headache or other sides.  Yay!

Thank you

I take mine in the morning right before breakfast.  Some days I have mild, but tolerable, headaches.  Other days, the side effects are minimal.  I drink plenty of water and this seems to help; about a gallon a day.

I take mine at 9PM just before bed.  To date no side effects.  My sleep pattern remains unchanged.  No headaches or fatigue.  Been on Harvoni 30 days.

After reading a lot of these threads, there doesn't seem to be any correlation between pill taken time and side effects.  The only caution seems to be to offset pill at least 4 hours from antacids.

Congrats on getting started!

I take mine at 8am. I figure I'd rather be through the worst of it and be able to sleep. I take it with a probiotic drink. Iphone alarm. Sometimes I go back to sleep. I can sleep 8-9 hours a night.

I started treatment 6 days ago, and I wish I could switch to taking the pill in the PM, because I feel fatigued and jittery in the morning after taking it, but feel energized in the afternoon and evening. I battle with insomnia anyway, so I don't know if there would be any difference there.   I certainly would like to use that PM energy in the morning instead. Since I know how important it is, I slam down a lot of water all the live long day.

I take mine right before i walk out the door for work, mostly though so i don't forget to take it. i am not on any other meds so i am not used to taking anything (i mostly forget my vitamin) then i turn the bottle upside down so i remember that i took it  (mostly that is for the w/e).

I used to take mine in the evening but I've been experiencing the feeling better/more energetic in the late afternoons and having trouble quieting my mind to sleep(which is generally not an issue).....Requiring hydroxyzine(antihistamine/antianxiety agent) to help me fall asleep.  I'm in my 6th week.

I've been gradually moving the time I take it earlier and earlier in the day, and today I took it midmorning with breakfast.

It's now early afternoon and still not feeling the energy buzz...so there you have it. H has a mind of its own...LOL...

Haha...yeah, I am starting to move it to mornings so I don't forget it as well.  I have been having a hard time getting to, and staying asleep though.  Hope that goes away.

Thanks all for your feedback.  :)

Im only on day six of Harvoni but decided to take it in the PM prior to sleep. I hoped that this way if there were any bad side effects Id sleep through them or worst case not have to deal with them during my work day.

So far no problems sleeping and I wake feeling fine no "fog" etc. I do have periods during the day of headaches and light nausea and as others on the forum have suggested drinking as much water as possible and for me a Ibuprofen will take care of the headache if it is persistent
