My journey with the Dragon is finally over after thirty years. After 12 weeks of S&O and a six month wait I have been declared virus free! I have been officially discharged from my IDS and now it is time for the healing to continue.
My liver is beat up, my spleen is screwed and my platelets are crap (62,000), but I am very hopeful that all this will improve in the future.

My new Gastro doctor is very positive in his prognosis for the future because he is seeing liver healing and greatly improving health occurring in nearly all of his patients who have been cured.

For my forum friends who failed on S&O, I am sure that your new meds will take care of the Beast and you will be dancing and crying in the near future as I am this evening.

To the Moderators, You know that I hold you all in a very special place in my heart.

To my Mel, Hang tough sister you will get through this and be OK in the end. You have one young man that really needs you to be there for a long time and you will.

And finally my Dear Lucinda, You are truly a special Angel sent to those of us in the fight or completing it. You gave me the knowledge, the strength and the wisdom that I needed nine months ago when I started this journey.

Peace my brothers and sisters, and God bless you all.
Bucky

Thanks for the congrats and good wishes. As I write this the HepC commercial is on the TV so I hope more people get cured as I did. The IDS clinic that I formally went to is booked out for six months because of the demand for treatment.

It will be great to spend this summer outside since I had to stay out of the sun last year.

Keep us posted!

My IDS said that my HepC infection was over and no additional VLs were needed. For my own peace of mind I will more than likely get rechecked in six more months.

Thank you Islandgirl and Chris. I still can't believe my good fortune to be rid of the Dragon.
Even as happy as I am, the staff at my former ID Clinic were as excited as me because they still can't believe how nearly everyone is being cured after years and years of watching people die a slow death without much hope of a cure.
My IDS told me that she had only one person relapse after treatment with S&O and she wished that the insurance carriers would allow her to use them more often. She said that her Harvoni patients did excellent as well but that the S&O cocktail appeared to be  "cleaner" on the body as far as side effects.

Mike,
Thank you for the good wishes.
For some strange reason I have felt the need to get a Dragon Tattoo with a big X on it. I don't have any Tats but it seems fitting, kind of a secret society thing where those of use who have taken this trip and won would know each other in public.
Just a crazy thought I guess. It would be my luck to get reinfected from the Tattoo.

Brad,
Thanks man and I hope you are successful with your next treatment. I am surprised as you are that you relapsed. I am almost twice your weight so you should in theory have had twice the amount of meds per lb.
On a side note, my sister noticed that I have some fat loss in my cheeks and that I now have a slight double chin. I asked my IDS about it since Olysio is a PI and I have seen the same thing happen to my friends who are co infected and were on the old meds for HIV. She noted my concern and observation, but she honestly said that since the meds are so new they still don't have all the facts about post treatment. She did show me a graft of my weight since I started treatment and I gained and lost and gained 15 lbs and I am now at my heaviest (230 lbs). I know that as people age some loose facial fat and get double chins so maybe this is what happened. I am almost 60 and that is the age where bodies really start to change. I am old but I don't want to admit it!
