lin44 that is good news only 8 weeks of Harvoni and cured. Taking good care of your health makes a big difference in the condition of your liver. What you eat and what you put on your skin passes through your liver in some way. A representative from Schering Plough at a support group meeting several years back said that research study found that antiperspirant greatly affects the liver in negative ways. My doctor about 25 years ago told me I needed to be careful what I eat no more fast foods to eat natural preferably organic to reduce stress on liver. The advice made a big difference in the condition of my liver today.

I had discomfort and tenderness in my abdominal area and would get very fatigued and would need to get a lot of rest. I took milk thistle every day for about 20 years I think that helped. Very happy to have been cured and each week I feel a little better and stronger. My doctor told me my liver would never return to a normal liver but would heal itself to a point just how much time will tell. The biggest thing I have been noticing is how clear my thoughts are now I can remember numbers and how words are spelled much better. So thankful I have lived long enough and others that a cure has been found and feel very sorry for those that did not live long enough to be cured.

Dear Friends,

I would like to share some news about my mother's post-treatment developments. Some of you know that my mother had 3m Harvoni treatment. She achieved EOT and SVR12. But then bad luck happened, SVR24 was positive with low viral replication. We disappointed because of relapse. Moreover, her all liver tests elevated. ALT,AST, GGT were very high, out of the normal range. All of those happened in December,2015

Beginning of the March, mother was tested for blood work. The results are shocked me. All liver tests and blood work are in the normal range. ALT, AST, GGT, Albumin and platelets are in the good range. In other words, they have returned back to normal.

Mother has only complain: abdominal ascities.

Our doctor says mother should have new viral test (PCR). He says, Harvoni is quite new drug and even doctors don't know how it affects virus and human immune system. Harvoni changes virus RNA and makes it fragile. Even virus survives after Harvoni, it is not so strong as before. While virus is infirm, immune system gets opportunity kill it once and for all.
He says we have a chance that virus is gone or at least very weak.

Now mother and me hope for a miracle. We will go for PCR test at the end of March. We are so tried and so hoping to hear good news.

What do you think? Is it possible that virus with low replication 6 month after Harvoni treatment is gone then?

notes: 3m Harvoni treatment; EOT negative and SVR12 neqative. SVR24 low virus replication and bad liver tests. after 32 weak of treatment all liver tests and blood work are in the norma range.

Please share you opinions.
I kiss all of you and wish good and strong health. Hope all members will survive and slay the dragon!
Thanks

Wow, don't really know what to say about that one. I am sorry to hear of the relapse, that is so unusual to have a 12 week EOT that is negative and then a 24 week that shows relapse. I would find out from Gilead what the statistics and the protocol is for re treatment. Specifically for Genotype 3, if I read your statement correctly. Please let us know what you find out, and good luck and prayers for your mother.

I'd be curious to know if anyone's kept an updated running total of the people posting here. I'm starting 12 weeks tomorrow, and really wondering how closely the clinical trial numbers correlate to real world results.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this; it's impossible to put into words how much value this board has had for me already.

Well,
My 12 week tests came back-Undetected.
The virus was basically wiped out by Mesochem sofosbuvir and ledipasvir the first 4 weeks.  A 12 week tx can currently can be imported in 3-5 days for $860.00- no prescription required.
Incepta's Twinvir for $1000.00.
Dr. James Freeman is presenting his REDEMPTION generic clinical trial results next week at EASL.  The findings are stellar. Generic prescriptions may become easier to get in the U.S. after those results are published.
Gilead is interested is selling and making money.  The only reason they would care about relapse is that it might affect their sales.
Sad but true.

Coach Mike -- FANTASTIC NEWS!!  I've been watching for your post on the 12 week results; very glad to hear this.  What a battle you went thru to get to this point! Can't wait to see what new info comes out of the EASL meeting, should be very interesting. This is a stellar year for HCV treatment, finally.

I have  blood work next week and am keeping fingers crossed for the magic word "UD" this time.  Again, so happy to hear your news!!!  FT

Coach mike,

I have often thought about you through this waiting period.  All one needs to do is read through all of the harvoni posts to get the idea that waiting for labs can be a bit stressful.  For you, however, and others forced to go the generic route, there must have been an added "guinea pig" stress element.  You got the meds from over seas for less that a fraction of the cost of Harvoni.  It may turn out that that is the sensible way to go.

Congrats and thanks for your contributions to this forum and giving hope to those unable to acquire the drugs through the conventional route.

I actually requested it from my doctor when I was getting my annual blood work done.  Nothing was challenged and I wanted the confirmation that all previous tests were accurate.  I feel confident now, that I am clear and feel that chapter of my life is closed.

Thanks everyone for the responses....... I love how this forum shares the Joy and the Sadness and gives support no matter what.  You all have helped me through a difficult time and I am here for you too!

Thanks Katie and Concerned Father, I just wondered, as my hepatologist gave a bit of a vague answer this week on if they would be doing any tests after SVR12 or they would let my GP f/u on that. I, too, am sure I will want that RNA test at 1 year and maybe even 2! FT

We have not seen anything to contradict this except we saw a propensity of shortened 8 week treatment relapses for those who had only minor liver damage but a good correlation for those who did not have any liver damage clearing and achieving SVR cured.

Also it seems that shortening the treatment to 12 weeks if you have cirrhosis is also not a good idea as we have also seen those who were shortened to 12 weeks relapse. But as others have stated most likely those who relapsed were more likely to post this unfortunate situation whereas many other forum members who did clear have not posted to this thread.

We can say that the clinical decision to shorten anyone to 8 weeks if there are any signs of liver damage whatsoever is questionable.

How many of the individuals on this thread that have RAVs is totally unknown and we should not forget that up until last year the RAVs that make Harvoni and other DAAs less effective were an unknown factor.

ABOUT THE POSSIBLE DANGERS OF SHORTENING TREATMENT:

It is only sensible that shortening of treatment might over time also have the adverse effect of creating new RAVs. We are just starting to see how this disease has managed to be so elusive and the study of how it manages to survive DAAs is really important.

Here is hoping that RAVS are only temporary switches in the RNA sequence that change and that DAAs will be effective for retreatments. I have long thought that the mechanism that HCV uses to trick the immune system might be like a clock that cycles through a sequence of variants. Essentially that HCV in itself is a diabolical polymorphic time bomb not an RNA sequence set structure.

Here is hoping that I am correct.

I am surprised that nobody has posted results in almost a week!  I thought a lot of people came off treatment mid to late march.
It's too complicated to "cut and paste this and that" .. "don't do this, don't do that" "Follow these rules"

That's why I haven't posted my, as of today, clean bill of liver health.

Hello     Its been a while        Treatment Update
              ANOTHER DRAGON SLAIN!!
I have received SVR 12 status after a 12wk regimen of Harvoni / Ribavirin. First treatment was Sovaldi / Olysio 12wks. UD at wks 4, 12, relapsed 12wks post.
Initially I was denied Harvoni but approved for VP.That particular regimen was Not Recommended by AASLD Guidelines due to cross resistance from previous treatment.
Fast forward 7 mths, I was approved for 12wks Harvoni/Ribavirin with some help from a forum friend and a person at Express Scripts who was extremely helpful in monitoring my appeal and making contacts, etc.
I began treatment Dec. 6, '15.  Naturally after failng a DAA regimen, my expectations were a bit simmered. The 12wk regimen of Harvoni/Ribavirin was a recommendation based on limited data.
Treatment went fairly smooth, much like the Sov/Oly treatment with the added joys of riba rage and awful itching. I was UD at wks 4 & 12, other labs much the same as first treatment.
I began experiencing occasional lower right and left quadrant aches and pains. I have seen other patients reporting similar experiences so I wasn't overly concerned. A short time later I learned that the recommended regimen for S/O relapses had been revised from 12 to 24wks. This newly revised recommendation had been implemented 3 days before end of treatment, however, I was not to learn of it until 2wks post treatment.  I was quite anxious about this new information as you can imagine and I soon began experiencing generalised abdominal discomfort, digestive issues (loose stool), some  muscle and joint aches and pains which at times awakened me.
I was about 99% sure the virus had returned so had Doc order enzyme test. To my surprise,  ALT dropped from 21 EOT to 16 3wks post.  AST remained unchanged at 17. I was somewhat encouraged by these results but still concerned, naturally. Digestive and muscle & joint pains continued intermittently. At 12wk post treatment lab time I was almost sure the virus had not been cleared. Actually I went in a few days early. Anyways, I was extremely relieved to see Not Detected.
What a rollercoaster ride this has been.
I am working on De-Stressing and am feeling a bit better. It feels good to say I USED to have Hepatitis C.
I have learned much browsing these forums. Thank you to all who contribute.
Good luck to everyone seeking treatment and those on treatment.
                                                                               Brad

Hi Kim,    Thank you very much. I've waited a long time to be able to post that. I hope your post treatment struggles resolve soon. I am struggling a little bit more than the first treatment with S/O but I think it is stress related. Stay healthy and I hope you can enjoy your summer. Take care Kim

Brad the best stress pill is to do something that you have put on the back burner because of HCV. Otherwise every little ache and pain will make you worry.

I am not at all saying that some of us did not experience a very hard ride getting rid of the beast but I know that it is time to smell the roses, cow shit and everyday living that we have forgotten how to enjoy!

It is fantastic hearing you cleared without a hitch on 12 weeks of Harvoni and Riba. I am really lucky that I did not go through another relapse which is what might have occurred if I went on S and O in 2013 not waited for a better alternative to be approved in Canada.

Cheers
Eric

Thank you  bflat10R,  Lynn K,  Mugwump,  BobV,
I haven't fully digested this news yet. Half of my relief is knowing I wont have to research or battle to get meds anymore.
I would like to point out that my on treatment and post treatment physical ailments were likely stress induced. I will say I wasn't crazy about the Ribavirin.
Mugwump, Yes , you're right. It is time to smell all those wonderful smells the world has to offer!
Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Congratulation Brad on a long and bad ass battle.  You deserve a break.

Congrats to FT, too. I knew you would do this.

I'll post my 4 week EOT late next week. I'm getting better but still get unexpected visits from the Riba Monster.  Good thing my sword is but a metaphor.  Can wait to be in the office "had" club.

And thanks again to all for the ongoing support.
