Anyone else waiting on their RNA PCR Quantitative test?
« on: May 15, 2015, 07:00:02 pm »
Hello Everyone

I had my labs done on the 7th with 3 tests showing up the same day. The HCV Quantitative test usually comes back by the following Monday. This time it didn't show up at all. I called this morning and the lady at the Brownstown HFH said she would call the lab at the main campus in Detroit, where the Quantitative test is done and call me back. She called back about 45 minutes later saying the Lab Tech at the main HFH told her there was a "National Shortage" on the reactive agent used to do the RNA PCR Quatitative test and that HFH lab was 300 test or so behind waiting on a supply of the testing agent.

I googled what she said but didn't find anything reffering to a shortage. I was wondering if there's anyone else that hasn't gotten their results back yet or are waiting?

Hi GLCII....I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma. You are the only one I've heard of a "national shortage"on testing substance needed to complete VL test from,EVER.its frustrating to hear because I tend to believe sometimes we are told "anything"to pacify us,whether true or false.. My blood was drawn on 5/8 and my VL results were given to me on 5/13....if Yale New Haven,Ct.is considered part of the nation the lab tech was referring to (I'm sure it is!)than no,I doubt the national shortage rumor to be anything more than "rumored"..Hope you get your results back any minute..good luck & take care!!

Hi GLCll,

Strange that you mention this, I have been on Sovaldi + Riba for 14 weeks now,,I have genotype 3,, so I'm unlucky enough to have to go thru a 24 week treatment plan, with that being said, I am SICK of blood draws, I have had roughly 6 HCV Quantitative tests done now,,along with the other laundry list of various tests,,my most recent being May 18, 2015,, along with 3 other tests,,I have all my tests done on Mondays, usually 2 or 3 are back by the Weds following the Monday test..However,,,this test that I just had on May 18,strangely I have gotten back 3 of the test results by Thurs May 21, 2015,,but still have not received my HCV Quantitative test back yet, and this is the FIRST time I have not received it by the latest, being the following Friday after the Monday testing.....I was undetectable at 2 weeks!,,and have been so throughout all of my following tests! However, AS of tonight May 26, 2015 I STILL have not received my HCV Quantitative test! So,,it has caused me a bit of stress,,but, I can tell you that this IS the first time this has happened, so maybe there is something to it?....I can tell you that I WILL be calling the Lab tomorrow morning, and see what answers I get!....Will keep you all posted!..Stay well,,,and I wish us BOTH GOOD LUCK!... :)

Hi Jiff and Everyone else.

I finally did get them back 9 days later. They came in on the following Saturday. This time however, I had my labs done on May 21st with all the test coming back the 22nd except for the Quantitative. Again! This time it's 14 days past due as of today. I'd say something is going on. I'm scheduled for my last blood draw tomorrow the 4th. Maybe I'll get both my Quantitatives back at the same time. Who knows?! I doubt anything has changed as far as the results go. The real tests are the upcoming tests.

Don't let it cause you stress osiris. I was a little bit worried that something might be wrong myself, at first, but it all turned out to be ok. They're just late.

My last pill is today at 12:00pm and after tomorrows test, I won't have to have anymore till July, September and the final in December. I'll be expecting the worst and hoping for the best. It's hard to get excited after 3-1/2yrs of prior treatments and 3 let downs.
