Buying Harvoni but worried about allergic reaction
« on: June 05, 2015, 10:04:17 am »
I am at a place where the only way to get this treatment for HepC is to pay it yourself. My doctor said I would have to pay for the entire 24 week treatment in one lump sum. So if I found out I have allergic reaction to this drug, the entire sum would be wasted. I would be very interested to know if anyone tried Harvoni and found that he/she is allergic to it, What would be the odds for that to happen, etc.

Sorry to read you're having to flip the bill for Harvoni.

Harvoni is very well tolerated. If you experience any side effects, they should be manageable at worst. I'm a couple weeks from finishing treatment and have not had any sides and there are a lot of folks like me.

I've not read anything about 'allergic reactions' at all.

Good luck.

Although I've not heard of a single allergic reaction, I am wondering if you have exhausted all the patient assistance programs that help with paying for treatment: http://www.hepmag.com/articles/hepatitis_paps_copays_20506.shtml

I am currently living in Hong Kong. As Harvoni has not been registered in the hospital authority here, the only way to get this treatment now is to pay for it myself. Although I can wait a few years until it finds its way into the government registry, the risk of further liver damage is a big motivation for getting this treatment asap.
