Day 1 - Viekira Pak + Ribavarin

Well , here I go. After a month of wrangling with insurance and pharmacy, I will finally be starting tx.

I will eventually post a detailed signature, but basically I treated about 5 years ago with peg/riba and was a non-responder.  I had a liver biopsy about 5 years ago and showed little damage.  My doc didn't think I needed another biopsy.  I feel pretty good, except for joint pain (could be age) and occasionally feeling slightly winded.

I do have one concern (and maybe someone could have some input).  My riba says to take 3 pills in the morning and 2 at night, but the online info dosing sheet says 2 in the morning and 3 at night.  Probably doesn't matter, but just wondering (if you are currently of Viekira) what  your dosing instructions were.

Best of luck to you with your treatment!  I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you.

Not sure about the 3/2 ribavirin, as I take 3 in the morning and evening.  Only thing I do is wait about 15 minutes after taking the viekira pak to take the ribavirin.  Also, taking both meds with the meal works better than before or after for me.

Thanks Phoenix,

Got a call from the nurse at the online pharmacy and she said to do what  ever is  on the bottle as far as riba doses and that that detail came from my doc.  So I thinking my doc screwed up the instructions.   Somewhere in the back of my mind, I am remembering reading something about the 3 ribas at night were because 3 make you feel worse than 2 and it would be more tolerable, work-wise , to go through the work day on 2 as opposed to 3... and try to sleep through the 3.

I think I'm just going to change it myself.

makes sense to wait a bit after taking the viek .... I had a pain in my  gut after taking all at once. ..

I was told 3 in morning 2 at night because insomnia can be a problem. That's the way it was prescribed for me. My treatment nurse also said I could move the riba earlier if I found it was interfering with sleep.

I am on Harvoni+Riba, not Viekira+Riba. But I was told exactly the same thing as Philadelphia: 3 Riba in morning, 2 at night because of sleep issues with more Riba at night. When I took my 2nd dose in evening for first week, I did have complete insomnia. When I moved second dose to 4:00 pm (at nurse's suggestion), insomnia went away (or reverted to my normal low-level insomnia).

Welcome! Like Kim and Philadelphia I do 3 in am and 2 in pm.
had gastro problems at the beginning of treatment and so take 20mg omeprazole on waking and 20 mg before bed (as per my doc) Problem solved. Also had insomnia but took Kim and Philadelphia's advice and moved dosing up a bit earlier.  Good Luck!

jpritch - just confirming that not only do some docs write the script that way (because of the insomnia), some also recommend taking the pm ribavirin as early as you can. I took mine at 7 am and 5 pm - although this isn't an even 12 hours, I really would battle insomnia if I took it much later.

I slept well last night,.. woke up about 4 times but I would do that pre-tx at times as well. 

I am taking my riba around 6... but will more it earlier if I have sleep issues.

ps - your profile pic looks familiar.  Were you on another forum a while back??

I came here from nomads,(and other places) which I can't find anymore.  Nomads was always my favorite and i miss it.
