Lower back pain from harvoni
« on: September 20, 2015, 11:48:31 am »
My daughter has been taking harvoni for 2 months. During this time she has had excruciating back pain. Today her pain is in her neck. Could this be a side effect of the drug?

vi cray, Welcome to the forums. Glad to have You. A most excellent place to keep abreast of what is going on in the Hep C world.
I am 2 days out of completing My 10Th of 12 weeks on Having. Starting with the 9Th week I started having some lower back pain that has progressed from occasional to constant. Just had My check in with G.I. on the 17Th. He recommended slowing down & getting more rest. Not really able to as full time job & doing inventory prep at work.
It feels more like bone or nerve to Me , as I have had back issues in the past. Doesn't feel at all like muscle related. Doc said no, just take it easy. Use Tylenol or Advil as needed. Didn't Rx any pain Melds. Been using the heating pad and warm to hot showers seem to give temporary relief.
Also, have had some neck issues that I attribute to the headaches and stress of work & treatment anxieties. I would check with the Doc to make sure that there are not any other underlying problems. Be sure to be specific about what is going on.
Trying not to sweat the small stuff & trusting in the Melds. doing their job. Just remember to ask questions and be specific when talking to the Doc when You have issues.
Please post any info. that You have on labs. treatment, etc. etc. when possible. Helps everyone to know where thing are at for Your treatment.

 Again,Welcome to the forums.

The forum spell checker keeps wanting to change "hepatologist" to "herpetologist" (someone who studies reptiles and amphibians) -- think it's trying to tell us something?

vicray, whether or not the excruciating back pain is a side effect of Harvoni, I hope your daughter's medical providers are doing their utmost to try to relieve it. I admire your daughter for sticking to the treatment despite her pain.

I wonder if the fatigue some of us experience on Harvoni might contribute to back issues. I think my posture is suffering a bit because of fatigue, and I spend a lot of time reclining. I'm generally stiffer and probably not exercising or standing/sitting up as straight as I might if I had more energy.

 Hey Seekir,

I am having the same problem. Every once in a while the first month or so. Then about week 7 lower back & hips. It seemed to back down during week eleven. I have had back problems in the past ( lower back strains, torque sprain etc. ) Mine feels more like nerve & joint pain than muscles & ligaments. Almost done with week 12 and I am planning on a trip to bone Doc to have it checked out as well as getting a massage to see if that helps. I'm kinda thinking like You as far as the cause. Been kind of a couch potatoe during Tx. due to working full time & fatigue/exhaustion.
Hope all is well out there in Heplandia everyone.

Yeah, I'm running on empty most of the time, but expecting that will improve after some undetermined time post-treatment. Not quite as far along as you Tommy (about week eight), but hot on your trail. That massage idea sounds like a good plan.

Hey, I am almost two months on with harvony and got lower back pain since week two.
Wonder if it's just during the treatment.
Anybody out there who experienced same issues and after finishing the treatment the pain disappeared?
