Flu shot Post TX
« on: September 22, 2015, 08:30:58 pm »
Hi All,

I am on 24 week R & S.  How long after TX are people waiting to get there flu shot?  Any side effects?  I have to travel on a plane after TX and thought I might need/get my Flu shot.  I have 3 weeks of TX left.  Side effects at this time is usual fatigue and shortness of breath afternoon.  Any thoughts out there...

Stay strong my friends.

I for one will get a flu shot this year. Last year was a disaster during last stage of 24 weeks of Harvoni! I did not have the flu shot and got sick as a dog.

BUT the flu shot last year completely missed the mark and my wife who had the shot, (she works in hospitals so she is required to have the shot) brought home a strain of the flu that put her off work for 10 days!

It damned near put me in the hospital and almost made me stop treatment at about 22 weeks of Harvoni because I was so sick with dark urine and the flu!

So I will get a shot this year hoping that the vaccine catches the bug this year. I don't want anything messing with what I am about to do, I have a tonne of hard writing, recording and performing to do this year now that HCV is gone from my system! I would hate it if the flu got in the way of any of these ventures. Worse still if the early season chironomid fly fishing in spring 2016 gets screwed up the way it did by the flu virus in April 2015 then I will be really miffed!

All I can say is catching a really bad case of the flu while on Harvoni treatment was a royal pain in the ass that I would not wish upon anyone.

All the best
Eric

Im 5 moths post tx.
Work in Health Care (NICU) and required to take Flu vac or wear a mask for 4 months.... so i take the shot. No side effects for me , shot was Ok. Still dont know if its worth it to have the shot since it is usually not the strain they vacinated for but also Ive not had the flu in 30 years and have been doing the shot as long as I can remember
