Pre-tx labs in hand. Week 4 labs scheduled for 11-12
« on: November 05, 2015, 02:43:35 pm »
When my pre-tx labs were done I was bombarded with numbers. My main concern was my genotype because that would determine treatment, how my liver looked on the ultrasound and my ALT & AST. Last week, when my doctor's assistant called to check on me and schedule my 4 wk labs I had a ton of questions for her. I know she said my fibrospect index was a 42 putting me between F2-F4. I thought this was a very wide range. In the confusion I somehow heard her say my VL was 4.5 million.

Well I finally have my pre-treatment labs in my hand and my VL is 2,512,570. I'm still confused about the Fibrospect index of 42. It say 42-100-consistent with Metavir F2-F4. Can anyone give me any insight?  I haven't had a fibroscan. My ultrasound said liver shows fairly homogenous echo texture, no mass and no intrahepatic biliary dilation. Gallbladder, kidney and pancreas all normal.

The best part of opening the mail today was not only seeing my VL was almost half what I thought it was but I have dates for my 4 wk labs (11-12), 8 wk (12-10) and 12 wk (1-07). And right there in print is my 12 wk EOT scheduled for 3-31. Somehow seeing it in print makes it more tangible. Getting a little anxious for next week's results but I know I got this!

Jaf,
I agree F2-F4 is too nebulous to tell. You need a fibroscan to be more accurate.  V/L is pretty good, mine was 9 million, but it does drop so quickly with these meds.

Did they do your ALS AST before tx too? Cal :)

Yes Cal. The ALT was 52 and the AST was 50. He originally told me my fibrosis was minimal considering how long the virus was in my body. He also said I did not have cirrhosis so seeing the actual numbers confused me. He's doing a Fibroscan on my follow up December 7th. I guess I'll know more then.  Hopefully my numbers will be way down.

Definitely Bill. We're going to kick Hep C's butt. I wish my doctor would have done a 2 week lab. I'm looking forward to seeing some progress. Good luck next week.

Hi JAF,
AST and ALT aren't too high and even if you do have more fibrosis than thought you're on 24 weeks which is therapeutic guideline. You're on the right tack and I'm know you'll get an accurate reading from fibroscan and get some peace of mind. Cal :)

Cal I'm only on 12 weeks of treatment. The lab scheduled for 3/31 is my 12 wk Post treatment. I actually finish treatment January 7th.  I'm not going to stress it unless the new labs give me reason to worry. Hopefully a fibroscan will give a more accurate result. Thanks for the encouragement.

Jaf,
Sorry me dear, I thought you were on 24 weeks. But I really think the scan will prove that it's the therapeutic dose for you anyways. 24 weeks would be overkill if you don't have cirrhosis. Cal :)

Hey guys - just started day 4 of my 5th week of treatment.  I had my first labs done yesterday and should have results Tuesday or Wednesday.

No new sides but boy this riba rage is off the charts!  I wonder if it has any connection to the fact that I've always had an explosive personality. Before the ribas I had to be provoked, now stuff comes out of my mouth before my brain can complete the thought process.  Let's just say I haven't been playing well with others.

I had an appointment with my primary doctor on Friday and he upped my Xanax. I had to laugh because this is a doctor who is hesitant to hand out any medication. He said I was noticeably more irritable.  Ya think???

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and I'll be back with results as soon as I have them.

Good morning Jaf,
It looks like you,me,and Cal are all up for review in the next few days.I have a good feeling that we're all going to be just fine.I would have had my results but because they were closed on Veterans Day I couldn't get mine done in time for last week.Since you're having problems with the riba rage I'm going to have to hide Cal's sharpe tongue along with the knives. :)

Hey TexasC - you're not kidding. Even a tough New York City girl like me is stunned by how enraged I get. I liked myself more when I was the happy, laid back me who could turn psycho only when I needed to. These days I never know who's showing up.

Bill - I was looking to see if you updated your signature. You started week 5 too, right?  Hope you're feeling ok. Me, you and Cal are going to kick some HepC butt this week. I'm in the middle of moving and my daughter just said this morning that she's glad I'll be home going through stuff and packing while she's at school and work this week. I guess they not only want me away from sharp objects, they want me hidden from society. In my calm moments I find it funny but in a rage I completely understand.

Good luck everybody.

Yeah there's 3 of us finding out this week how we're doing Jaf.I'm feeling ok but having a few sx today, headache, worn out,and just feeling like I took a minor beating.I'm 2 days into week 5 and this only makes the third time I've really felt bad so I'm doing great all things considered.Society and I have a understanding.I'm naturally cranky so they avoid me and I don't go looking for them. :) Let me know how you and Cali come out with the results and I'll post mine as soon and I have them.GL to us all and may we send a few more dragons on to become legends.

I did it ladies and gentlemen. Just got my 4 week lab results which I had done on 11-14 - undetectable!  ALT is 17 and AST is 19. Dr's assistant said he's still checking on the blood count and liver function but there are no red flags so he doesn't expect any problems. He just wanted me to have a happy thanksgiving and happy birthday.

Lots to be thankful for this year!!!

Thanks Bree. He really is a great guy. I see him on Dec. 7th so I'll know more, but this just made me so happy. Finally no detectable HepC after dealing with it for 35-40 years!

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy thanksgiving!
