I am on day 15 of 12 weeks of harvoni. I live in the Netherlands (Holland) where harvoni is now freely available on national health. Till now just periods of fatigue, the occasional light headache washed away with copious amounts of water. Blood pressure doing strange things though. Much higher than usual first 10 days then seemed to level out again. Energy seems to be increasing again and head seems less foggy. After 40 years of hosting this virus a parting of the ways seems inevitable  Have always stayed away from alcohol, drugs, smoking and have led a healthy lifestyle. Contracted virus via blood transfusion. Have never been treated before harvoni as never really had many problems. Asat and alat always in the 25-35 range and vl around 350,000. The posts here helped me to decide to take treatment, thanks to all contributers

Welcome to the forums, Hepaway. And congratulations on starting your treatment journey! A few others here have commented on increased blood pressure while taking Harvoni. Glad to hear yours has gone back down already. May your remaining 10 weeks be smooth sailing. :)

Welcome! How wonderful that your government has made HCV treatment available. I am in Australia and sadly ours has not yet acted in such a compassionate way.

I am so pleased things are going well for you.

I have heard travellers talk with great affection about the Netherlands. I do hope to see it for myself one day.

Hiya hepaway,

40 years seems to be the most common time frame.  I have (had) had it 40 yrs almost to the day.  I had high BP even prior to the treatment, but never checked it during tx.  I bet it was on the high side.  There have been others that had that issue.

Welcome to our international hullabaloo.  You will soon be hep free...so congrats.  Yes very cool that Holland has a compassionate program.  It will be interesting to see what happens as the new drugs go global.  It is fascinating the difference in price depending on where you go and what programs are available.  Some individuals are paying out of pocket at the tune of 1200.00 a day...some are getting them free...some payin 35.00 co-pay...the generics cost much less in India and other countries.  Even non generic Harvoni  varies greatly in every country.  Insurance companies and socialized medicine are having difficulties with the high costs.  My hope is that eventually we can see equity in the world for the 200 million infected.

Keep us informed on the Netherlands system...perhaps it could be a model for other governments.  Very happy to have you on board this forum.  peace

You know I too had high blood pressure while on treatment and I am happy to report that it is now back to normal.
Full disclosure- I did usually see my doctor after a big cup of coffee in the morning and was probably a bit nervous too which did not help my BP numbers.

Wonderful to hear that the Netherlands is sensible about HCV treatments. Congrats on living in a health promoting nation. Please be a lesson for the rest of the world.

First Id like to thank those who took their time and energy to welcome me to this forum; appreciated. And second the nurse rang today with results of 4 week blood test and yes undetected. So now it is a matter of sitting it out till the end. Thank you Gilead and thank you Dutch government for making it possible. So far so good, no sides to speak of, almost too good to be true. I had adopted a let's wait and see state of mind some years ago so a few more months shouldn't be too difficult. I read here about relapses so I guess anything is possible and I really feel for those who relapse after setting their hopes on a cure.
I see most of you have a long list of test results etc listed. Is it enough to share:
Geno type 1b
Not detected at 4 weeks. To be continued...

Hepaway,
Welcome and congrats on the good news...4 weeks and undetected!  You've got this!  So good to hear the Dutch government is supporting treatment for all. I hope other countries follow...soon.
