Cal on Viekira & Ribas 17 weeks. Post tx
« on: February 03, 2016, 09:30:58 pm »
Hi all my caring friends,
Sorry I haven't posted for ages. I am having a rough time post tx, I didn't want to put a negative vibe on the forum.
I have also just been so fogged and weak I didn't feel I could post. But some dear friends PM'ed me and encouraged me to post again. Thank you dear friends.

I am 8 weeks post tx now and at 4 weeks I was UND. It's looking good so far. I am happy and excited about this.

I have gall stones and a liver cyst that they are keeping an eye on (More waiting hohum). I am in pain and weak. I have gut pain and muscle pain and weakness. I am seeing a neurologist as my neuropathy has worsened. My feet burn, which is a new symptom. I am hoping all this pain and numbness is temporary. We'll see. Riba rash is still mental and I am losing hair. This happened last tx too.

But don't worry, I am just keeping my eye on the prize. 4 more weeks to EOT! Cal :)

So good to hear from you again, Cal!!!  8)  I know exactly what you mean about post-treatment being rough. I too had a lot of problems post-tx - was quite disabled  for several months and could hardly post here for some of that time.

You mention painful feet. I developed excruciatingly itchy palms and soles of feet post-tx. Have never had that before in my life. It slowly subsided over the months, and now I just very occasionally have a wee touch of it - usually when my body is weakened or depleted from something else.

I do think that these post treatments problems some of us experience will all clear up eventually. So patience is the key word.

I am finally in a position where I am able to feel some benefits of No More Hep C! Particularly more mental clarity and better mental functioning in general.

So hang in there, Cal. And keep on posting! We want to know how you're doing. :)

I went through the itchy palms too!  Not excruciating , but weird.    Lasted about a month.

Still feel weird everyday too.  I keep reading that it can take up to a year to feel normal... and that was the case my first go around.  So that thought gets me through each day.

Thanks dear Kim,
I occasionally get the itchy thing but its still and all over. I have come up in new riba spots today, will it ever end phew!
So you were wiped out for a while too, sorry to hear that but relieved selfishly that it validates me. Thanks for reminding me that most of this crap passes. I forget sometimes. Cal :)

Puts a smile on my face to see a new post from you!   ;D

Actually, I had my labs done 2 weeks early.  10 weeks post-treatment.  So I should know by Wednesday or so?  Liver panel in and looking okay.  Smidge of a rise in AST & ALT from EOT levels, but nothing I'm gonna sweat over.

The concordance between SVR at 4wks post-treatment and SVR at 12 post-treatment is 98%.  So I'm comfortable with doing them just a little early.   I've had some post tx issues, so I just need to know, yanno?  ;)

About that rollercoaster, I'm not white-knuckling it.  I'm one of those tools waving their arms over their heads and screaming.   ;)

yep.... I finally caved and went to see my gp today.  Decided I must be depressed.  Got back on celexa which i was on about 5 years ago.  Don't remember if it helped...but I do remember I did not have any scary side effects which is a BIG problem with antidepressants.

Also, looking for an ACT therapist.

I'm glad you're being proactive, Kiddo.  I had to google ACT.  Acceptance, mindfulness, committed action.  Sounds like an excellent path.

Funny...just recently I was having all these weird issues with...well...my brain.  Odd sensations and anxiety...etc.  Then I realized I was depressed.  Another old bedfellow of mine that I struggled with ever so often over the years.  I was like...aight...bring it on bitches.  Went right to the feeling and stayed mindful of how it felt in the body.  For me, the only way out is through.  Mindfulness is so freaking helpful.  Also, there is something called somatic experiencing developed by a renown trauma therapist for PTSD that seeks to guide over whelming feelings into body sensations and throuh their expression, which is how the deep centers of the brain communicate emotional pain and unresolved trauma.  Only thing that works for me...hard part is to be patient with the process.  The wave of depression sometimes feels like it has a mind of its own.  Peace DM and Cal and all who are visited periodically by dysphoria.

Yep, ACT is great.  I think I would be much worse if I had not been working on the diffusion techniques.  Just felt like I needed little extra help.  Lot going on in my life and lot of changes coming down the pike.

Hey Cal, nice to see a some posts from you. I know you have had a rough treatment and post treatment. It's hard sometimes to be positive when your mind and body are in torment. It's nice to know that so many people here care about you and are pulling for you. It's really a good group of folks that have gone through this together. Just knowing we are here for you, whether to vent or to just have a laugh is nice knowing that you have support. My daughter just committed to the University of Nebraska for college in the fall, may have to take a second job. Luckily she is getting quite a bit in scholarship money. Don't think my body is quite up to working 2 jobs just yet. Hope you can get some relief soon, it's coming girl, maybe a little slow, but it's coming

Thanks all.

Well the celexa did not work out so well.  It made me extremely nervous and nauseous.
After four days I gave up.  So I looked around and found that these are standard sides and it gets better after a week or two.  So I am going to wait and try again on spring break when I don't have to teach classes.
Funny think is , I don't remember feeling any of this side effects when I was on celexa for a while 5 years ago.  Guess being 5 years older makes a difference.

I am trying Sam E now.  Which I have used before with some success.

Man, that was so long ago and I was taking a lot of sups.

I know you are not supposed to mix Sam E with anti depressants though, so I doubt I was  doing both.  Thats why I waited a couple of days after I ceased the celexa to start the sam E.
Its just so weird that I got super nervous and nauseous on the celexa this time aorund.  I'm going to have my doc go back and see if I am taking the same celexa.  Might be a generic this time around.  Actually though, I'm not going to mess with the celexa anymore , it was just too much....and I was on the lowest dose possiblle.
ugh.

I do remember that when I was on sam E a few years ago that I never slept better in my life.  Hopefully the same results this time.

Scout

yeah, same pharmacy , but lower dose.  If I do decide to try it again, I'm going to have my doctor check and be sure it is the exact same med.  I know some people have trouble with generics and that is what my insurance company approves ... don't know if I was on generic 5 years ago,,. will check.

I'm hopping the sam E works.

Sorry, cal,.... not meaning to highjack your thread.

Hey Yall.... Just a shout out to Cal and my peeps!  Cal, I looked in the crystal ball and I can see balance restoring for you...I know it will come!

I'm so glad I get to experience you all on this forum and I feel forever warm fuzzies in my heart toward our group.

Interesting dialogue on the emotional healing and brain chemistry front.  I'm real into ACT (thanks Cal!) and Beto, I just googled somatic experience... interesting stuff.  Now that we don't have Hep C we get to deal with all forms of healing.  If we have survived and conquered this disease, we can find a way for the other stuff and it's pretty awesome that we are dialed in so much that we want to so we can create our best selves!  it's a journey, no doubt about it.   Love, Bree 8)

Hi Cal, looks like i get to join you on this side of the forum a little bit sooner than I thought.
My new insurance and pharmacy couldn't get it straight that I was approved for my last 4 wks  until 14 days after my last dose that i was approved on the day of my last dose. so I told them in a riba rage moment that would have made you proud where they could shove it. so april 27th is my 12 wk eot labs. did manage to get 20 of 24 wks done. Sorry to hear that you are having so many other problems going on that you have to deal with. but if the same fighter that I met on the other side, I know you will persevere and put all the other things behind you just like the hep dragon. Thank you my Friend for helping me make it through some rough patches during tx.

My Lovely lovely Heplandia friends,

You were right, I Svr'ed at 12 weeks EOT. I found out a few days ago. What a trip! Just goes to show that previous RAV inducing drugs don't have to alter the outcome of our new tx''s.
I'm slowly getting better. I need to sleep most days and still have a bit of pain. I am seeing a Neurologist about the peripheral neuropathy which worsened during tx. I blame the ribas of course! But am taking PEA Pure for 3 weeks now and my feet have stopped burning already. I am hopeful it will help me.
I am doing brain exercises in neuroplasticity to sharpen that dreadful memory and dementia like symptoms and it's really working.

I walk daily with my dog Smithers and we walk quite a long way now. I am so happy to be reconnected with the outside world again.

I'm a writer and have had a lot of trouble writing, but I am moving towards finishing a play I was writing 4 years ago. So I am very excited as this is the true indication for me that I am well. The words aren't flowing as easily as they used too, but I have faith they will. I get my thyroid removed soon, I saw the surgeon yesterday.

You guys!!! Thank you for being such staunch supporters, even when I was convinced I was going to relapse. Your wisdoms and laughter made me get through. I had a really hard time on tx and the past 3 months post have been hard too.

I'm sorry to hear that  some are wrestling with anxiety and depression. I do think it's the chemical imbalance and that it will get better. Post tx is such an alien landscape to navigate, it's a day by day trip.

Hugs to all my mates. Love Calx :)

Cal, so happy to hear that you cleared the virus. I know you have had a very rough tx and post tx, but even though it may be going at a snails pace, at least that snail is going in the right direction.

Tommy, it was 80 degrees yesterday, and it is snowing right now. Bipolar weather is exactly the way to describe it here also..

You were right, I Svr'ed at 12 weeks EOT. I found out a few days ago...

I'm a writer and have had a lot of trouble writing, but I am moving towards finishing a play I was writing 4 years ago. So I am very excited as this is the true indication for me that I am well. The words aren't flowing as easily as they used too, but I have faith they will.

Congrats Cal!!! So glad the words are starting to return to you. This has been one of my biggest problems too as a writer who had Hep C for decades. I too have noticed the words returning both during and post treatment. My brain is working better. I have had a lot of physical challenges post-tx. And my blood work still is not great (all types of blood cells too low). But writer to writer, I can tell you it is great to see our brains coming back online! :)

Yep, party at Bree's house.  We'll start working on our plan for that in the next few months... Else was just at my house last night, believe it or not.  She agrees, we can have a party here! 8)

My bro lives on Oahu.  So I can take a trip to see him.  I also need to see my distributor there (have not done any biz in HI for about 4 years.  Maybe in the Fall.  If some folks can't afford it we can start a Go-Fund-Me.  Though the American perception of Heppers is probably that we are a bunch o' junkies...teehee

We could airbnb in your area I wonder?  I don't even know what Island you are on.  Will be a gas.

Your exactly right Beto. The stigma unfortunately is still there. I had a cardiologist ask me a few weeks ago how I got it, and I replied what and why do you feel the need to know or to ask? I said its ignorant medical professions like you that put this "stigma" on us and I don't appreciate it at all! I never did tell him I got it from a tattoo, none of his business!

Scout

You tell em' .  Glad you are still spunky.  That is a good sign.  Now that I am approaching cure, I have been telling people about the 40 years of hep struggles.  Funny how we pretend we are 100% for so long and hide everything so we don't get shunned or fired or chastised.  Some people are kinda weird when I tell them, like I was putting them in harms way for all those years.  Then there are those to whom it never mattered, but everyone wants to know if you shot drugs.  That is just much more tabloid information.  All of the stories we tell that rivet us from our fellows struggles..the rest of the world could pretty much care less, unless it involves near death experiences or run ins with drug dealers.  But our trial and tribulations...whatever...

Tommy- not only have you had to put up with HCV and all the trimmings, TX and EOT woes, but you can't seem to get the damn health system to cooperate.  Another drop in the bucket they say.

Cal- nice of you to chirp up on your thread that we have all hijacked.  Trivia: Cal's thread is one of the most read and commented on in the forum's collective history...no kidding check out the stats.  So get on it Cal let's get back to all that yakity yak we were all so good at as newbies.

Love it, love it , love it!!  I am absolutely thrilled for you!!!!!  Virtual hugs coming your way!

My depression is better.  Taking SAMe every a.m before I eat.  After about 2 weeks it seems to really help.  Was doing SAMe that contained mannitol... not good.  Had to find SAMe w/o mannitol.  Much better!

anyway,  glad to hear you are on the mend!
