Reversal of Fibrosis
« on: February 17, 2016, 08:30:45 am »
Hi,  I am new to this list and not sure how to post.  Not sure if this has been covered.  I would love to hear any stories of reversal of advanced fibrosis after taking Harvoni or other drug to heal hepatitis c.  If reversal did occur, how long did it take and did it just happen spontaneously or did you take any herbs or follow any special diet to improve your liver?

Thank you very much for any information.

Hi hepclady and welcome to this forum!  You will find a TON of valuable info, plus support, here. I'm getting ready to start Harvoni after fighting a year for it, but have been following this forum for several years.  I'm not sure there's an answer to your question as of yet, as Harvoni was just approved in Oct. 2014, Vierka Pak in Dec. 2014, Daklinza last summer, Zepatier last month and another probably will be in June!  These are all very new drugs and lots of information is rolling in as more and more HCV patients take them. I imagine this issue of fibrosis reversal will be coming up in the data; perhaps the moderators can help with this question.

Each drug has a list of drugs/etc. to avoid, which can be found in their prescribing info. Your doctor will be the best resource; I'm not familiar with herbs, as I never took any for this condition. All the drugs are just so new -- but thankfully they are now here! Lots of hope now, as compared to just 2 years ago.  FT

Hi Hepclady

A lot depends on how much liver damage you currently have.

Those with F0 to F2 after SVR will be followed as though they never had hep c while those like myself with more significant liver damage only time will tell.

I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in Jan 2008 I will need to have abdominal ultrasounds and AFP blood tests to monitor for signs of liver cancer likely for the rest of my life even though my hep c is cured as I still have cirrhosis.

Good luck to you

Hi Hepclady,
I was looking for information on that myself a while back. There are several studies going on about that I ran across. This article is from 2008.I know there was one I read from 2014 on this same study but I can't find it right now.I'm sure there is more but my mind isn't into searching today. There's also one I read that was being done in the Netherlands.I'll look for them and post them later.

Else, thank you so very much for posting that link ---- awesome info there!!!!! There is so much great info on this forum, it's hard to find it all, so thank you very much.  I will definitely be returning to that thread during my treatment process.

Lynn, as always, thank you, too, for your sound info and advice.  FT
