New Here & Getting Ready to Start Treatment
« on: March 10, 2016, 10:16:51 am »
Hi everyone,

I was DX with Hep C genotype 3 (17) years ago and because my liver showed no fibrosis and my viral load was low the doctors did not recommend treatment at that time.

Fast forward........viral load now is just under 1/2 million and fibrosis level is 2. I'm thankful that there are new and better treatment options available. My doc has recommended Daklinza + Solvaldi for 12 weeks & my insurance carrier has approved & authorized this course of treatment with NO CO-PAY.

I'm very thankful and anxious to start treatment. From what I've read, fatique & headaches are the most common side effects.........anything else that I should be on the look out for?

Thanks!

Welcome Deborah 1958,
Congrats on your approval for treatment with Daklinza and Sovaldi. I completed a 12 week treatment course with these meds in early December. I am also GT 3.

I had very mild side effects...an occasional mild headache, but no fatigue. I did feel a bit energized during treatment, but not overly so. I have read about possible interactions with Daklinza on Greg Jefferys' blog...specifically that energy drinks and supplements that contain taurine can increase an enzyme which clears the med quickly possibly reducing efficacy. Also that some fruits (ie:  grapefruit, grapes, star fruit, pomegranate)  can increase this enzyme which would lead to increase in side effects and possible toxicity.

Good luck to you!  Keep us updated on your progress.

Mary

Welcome to the forums, Deborah! And congrats on getting approved for treatment. From all I have heard and read on these forums, the Sovaldi+Daklinza combo is really well tolerated by people and has minimal side effects. As a former Geno 3 myself, I wish that combo had been available when I treated and was cured last year. I did 12 weeks of Harvoni+ribavirin. The riba was hard on me. But the important thing is that we each find a way to get cured.

Drink plenty of water seems to be the universal advice here. And it does lessen or eliminate some side effects like headache, if you should experience that.

Good luck, and keep posting :)

Thanks for the responses. I have an appt with my doctor on Monday to pick up the medication and go over interactions, usage etc. CVS Caremark Specialty always sends the first months supply to the doctor.

I am beyond excited to get this started!

Hey Deborah1958 and welcome! I'm 20 days into the journey on the Harvoni Train (or Magic Bus, pick which one you'd like to ride on) with several other members.  I am sure now that Daklinza is getting on various drug formularies that we will see more people taking your medicine, vs. the Harvoni. Hope it's a smooth ride as mine has been, and keep us updated -- Congrats! The future is bright -- FT
