Best time to take Harvoni?
« on: March 18, 2016, 06:50:58 pm »
Hi Folks,

Is there a best time of day to take Harvoni?
I have been taking it in the evening with dinner (9 p.m.) - but
have read that in the morning, with breakfast is best.

I'm wondering if I should change ... if it's safe to ... if it matters?

Advice?

Andrew.

Whatever time works best for you to consistently remember to take your meds.

If you find you have too much energy in the evening and are taking your pill in the evening then adjust you time over several days to earlier in the day.

If you are taking in the morning and find you are feeling more tired adjust your time to later in the day.

The best time of day to take Harvoni is a time of day you will not forget to take it.

Hi Andrew,

I am new here also and just began taking harvoni this week.  I decided on 6:30pm, right after dinner.  I knew I wouldn't forget to eat dinner!!!  I also set my phone alarm and chart every time I take my pill.  I am sure you have heard this before, but drink plenty of water, it makes all the difference in how you will feel.  Best of luck!!  Brie

My Doctor did stress to decide on the best time and stick with it, and I am taking it at the exact time each day!
Diagnosed  HCV, 1A 2006
Viral load 6 million
Ast/Alt always in the 20's
F0-F1, never changed
Treatment naive, started 8 week Harvoni 3/15/16
4 and 8 week labs undetected
6 week eot labs undetected
13 week eot UNDETECTED!

Thanks, guys.

... Not sure about energy distribution yet, Lynn - but 7-8-9 days in, I am
feeling SO much better!
Yay!!

My thinking has stabilised, after so many years of 'impaired consciousness'
(= 'Brain Fog').

( I probably contracted the virus in 1975 / 76 - and it's been in 'chronic-active'
mode since late 1996).

Best regards, eh?
Andrew.

Welcome Andrew! I took my Harvoni at 9:00 each morning. I was one of the people who experienced the "Harvoni High", which for me would last for about 6 hours after taking it. So I was glad to take it in the mornings and have that powering me through the day. Not everyone experiences that though.

best,
kim

Hi Kim and Malou.

Yes - that's the only thing about taking the meds. at night -
I can't really structure in that new-found energy in the same way
you guys can.
It all feels a bit unwieldy!

You can shift your time to mornings if you think that would work better for you. I think the advice is to shift your pill time by 2 hrs each day until you get to the time you want.

I took mine at 9 p.m. every night.  My theory was that I would be asleep before insomnia set in.  I had plenty of energy and harvoni high in the day.  Welcome to forum...

Hey Andrewj and welcome to the forum! I just finished my first bottle of Harvoni today -- woohoo!! 2 more to go and getting blood work today. My doc stressed it was important to find a time to take that you could remember easily -- I chose to take mine with breakfast as I wanted to take it with food, as some mentioned it is tolerated better that way.  Anyway -- I totally agree with what happened on "Day 7", as that is also when I noticed a significant loss of fatigue.  Some members have had their blood work done in the first week, and their VL has been gone or significantly decreased.  So, this miracle pill works quite fast but it takes a lot of them to get the job totally done. I haven't had any significant side effects thus far, thankfully. These last 28 days have really flown by, so hopefully your time will, too! Much to be grateful for and the future is bright -- FT

Thanks, FT.

The increase in energy is great, isn't it? -
... esp. more stabilised thinking (for me, anyway).

For now, I have decided to just stay where I am at 9 p.m.
(... and constantly wonder if ...?!) ...

Anxiety.
Boy - does Hep C know how to do anxiety, eh?

Best regards,
Andrew.

When people have referred to the "Harvoni High", I really didn't know what they were talking about.  But getting some energy back .... it's hard to describe the extreme fatigue you feel until you don't feel it anymore! When your normal is tired all the time for a very long time, it's hard to distinguish it from a true normal, until you don't feel it anymore! For me, it was like a weighted cloak had been lifted off me. Just can move more easily now instead of feeling so sluggish. It was a very nice surprise effect, to say the least! Take care, FT
