Doctor told me my Geno-type 3a Virus must be extremely aggressive? what would cause some people to have no liver damage after many years of HCV but i have contracted HCV at maximum 5 years ago and my Fibrosure test is F2/3 with A2/3 Inflammation. i barely drank (do not drink now after diagnoses) and i dont do drugs

hoping nothing long-term after my treatment. if this virus ravaged my body so badly in 5 years

happy to begin to have my life back ive been stricken with being always tired. and constant soft stool and now i understand why! wish i realized what was causing me to want to nod off when driving after a full day of sleep!

really glad i took the step to get my body tested to see what was going on. was never expecting Hep C but happy it was cough now and not when i actually have perminient liver damage.

Genotype 3 is the most aggressive type of hepatitis C. Compared with other genotypes, people with genotype 3 tend to progress more rapidly to fibrosis and cirrhosis. Genotype 3's have a higher prevalence of severe steatosis (fatty liver), and a higher incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).

However, 5 years is quite fast. Any chance you could be mistaken about the date you were infected? Another factor that hurries the process along is a person's immune system. People who acquire hep C after age 40-50 tend to move rapidly to cirrhosis.

im saying 5 years because i used to donate blood in highschool so 5 or 6 years max

im sure the Fibrasure test is not the most accurate

Well, that also tells me that you are young, so this is unusual. I assume you have been tested for HIV?

Hey Andrew, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I myself was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with geno type 1b
F4 /A2...
I'm 42 but have never been a drinker, Always ate good, was a gym rat, never did much for drugs.
from what I can figure I was infected through a tattoo.
From what I understand & the significance research I've done, if you up to F3 that there already is permanent damage!!
Again I'm no expert but treatment asap will stop any future damage if it is successful & your liver will possibly heal itself to some extent.
I'm scheduled to start treatment next week, & I cannot wait.
I didn't think I had any symptoms but now that I know this devil is in me I can see & feel it's slown methodical head bearing itself through loss of desire, sometime feel foggy, & weight loss, although I eat quite a bit?
There's a lot of positive help in here & I'm still scares & nervous but talking to the people that have experience helps ease the stress.

don't think i have taken any type of STD test at this time, i was going to inquire about one after this HCV process.

I don't mean to pry, but do you know how you were infected? I don't need to know, but I wanted to see if you knew, as that's important. I ask because HIV isn't just transmitted sexually.

i think i contracted Hep C from tattoos (place i went to years ago recently has been having some super bad rep with people getting severe infections) so i honestly don't know how clean they were. or from MMA (before i had my spinal fusion)

needless to say typical me when u said HIV i had a panic attack and drove to CVS for oraquick.com at home HIV test.... came back negative thank god. lol

Good luck Andrew! I think you'll be fine once you start treatment and clear the virus. I was 3a for about 45 years before clearing last year with Harvoni+ribavirin. Fortunately, you won't have to do the riba. There are newer drugs now for Geno 3 people.

It does seem that gt3 progresses more rapidly in some people. However there are examples of some who have a flare up and then settle down and live with little symptoms. This disease is mysterious in the way it seems to trick the human immune system. Some people succumb rapidly while others go on with little to no symptoms at all for their entire lives.
Here is the real scary part, your viral load does not mean very much.

BUT ENOUGH DOOM AND GLOOM!

You have a very good chance of reversal of the processes leading to cirrhosis if you are cured quickly. There is very good evidence that many who clear the disease even with full blown cirrhosis have had their livers normalize to the extent that it was like they did not ever have HCV.
Some here on the forum have had exceptional results with lower density readings and there are years of study showing that those who years ago cleared at the f2-4 stages have gone on to have a healthy outcome with no signs or symptoms of cirrhosis.

All the best in clearing the disease ASAP

Epclusa will be on its way and in my hands by Wednesday

$5 copay so only $15 for treatment.

going to start Wednesday think i will be taking the pills twords 5:00pm every day since i have school i would not want the drowsiness to onset if i have a problem with it during class.

On my 5th week of Epclusa, GT-3. Don't even know I'm taking anything! - no side effects(maybe a few more naps

Just got 4 week lab tests and the Hep C Virus is UNDETECTABLE already

covered by insurance with preauth for 3 mos

Doctors Appointment on Monday to review results.

was not able to get my blood test at 4 weeks so it was done at 5.

lady on phone said still detected

viral load of 35 tho... didn't ask her anything else because i was really hoping for undetected.

hopefully 35 and not 35 million.
initial viral load test i was 6.5 million

Don't panic just yet. I was still detected at 4 weeks - 40 - but went on to clear by 8 weeks, the date of my next viral load test. Perhaps it was undetected the day after the 4 week blood test, or the week after. Who knows? Lots of people find they are still detected. People wil tell you the only test that really counts is the SVR12 and that's true.

Ditto on what Philadelphia said. I've seen people who were detectable at 4 weeks post-treatment achieve SVR 12

Treatment ending next week and will get results. I haven't had labs since 4 wks and I'm ready to be done!
