DAY 3 on Harvoni and Coffee
« on: February 01, 2017, 07:38:19 am »
On day three of Harvoni. No problems. However yesterday, I tried coffee for the first time since treatment. I take my Harv at 9am after a bowl of wheat cereal. Perfect. Then when 3pm rolled around and I had a few things to do I thought I'd experiment and invite coffee into my body. It seems that Harvoni and coffee, in MY body, don't like each other. Strange need to reflux and then at about 10pm I felt like I had had three cups of coffee or some other stimulant and anxiety, slight dizziness. I've been vigilant about my water uptake so I drank more and ate as per the usual time.

So, no more coffee for a while until I get a bearing on where this is going to go first. Other than that I feel normal today. If anyone has had coffee go South on them, please advise.

ditto what andrew said. a lot of us experienced not only the 'harvoni high' (which was very euphoric in daytime but wreaked havoc with sleep) but also experienced heartburn from harvoni. (in my case, i had never before experienced true heartburn/reflux. i thought i was having a heart attack at midnight & was preparing to drive myself to hospital when i figured it out.)

so adding coffee to that mix, which can also cause both insomnia and heartburn/reflux, may not work for some of us. i am a tea drinker and i continued to drink tea throughout treatment, but only in morning, which was also when i took the pill.

Good to know. I searched and found a link to "liver clock," which spelled out a lot for me, especially about coffee. I am able to take coffee as long as it is before noon. But only after eating something before it. I take it black, normally but now, with milk. I limit my intake to about a quarter cup. I'm more sensitive to it now so I don't need a full cup. I found that I have no problems with the decreased portion and have the same affect as a cup of Joe, if I wasn't on Harvoni. So far, so good.

First week on Harvoni check-in, seven days. No headache, no insomnia, nausea. I did have a strong fatigue on day 4 after taking it. I slept all day. A little fog w/ mild short-term memory loss. Tried coffee but at the wrong time, may have spiked BP but not sure about this. Coffee before noon or after taking Harvoni with food at 9am has no negative reaction. Over a few years I've had a predisposition of enlarged prostate BPH and a recent ultrasound revealed bladder wall thickening pre-tx, not surprising with BPH and difficulty urinating. This has been exacerbated either by the larger intake of water or a possible side. Any guys had or have this? Frequent nocturnal visits to the bathroom. Currently drinking a concentrated tea I make from pygeum Africanum bark and taking concentrated cranberry capsules temporarily. Yesterday, I felt like a child. I had energy with a quality that I haven't experienced for so long I forgot what it was like. It felt like the conscious sensation of being "alive?" Awakened, were parts of my mind, sharpened, and my attitude much more assertive than aggressive. Appetite is normal considering I did Intermittent Fasting for last five years, I've gained a couple of pounds, some in water, no doubt. We eat Mediterranean. Nightly cravings for sweets haven't changed, I just need to keep a grip on it about the choices. Water intake at less than 4 liters, about one gallon. I hope this continues with almost no sides.

Thanks to everyone who has responded and helped me to navigate this treatment.

HUGS

I love coffee. I drink Italian coffee twice a day. I was still able to do so while on Harvoni without having to think about it  ;D

I, too, drank coffee during Harvoni treatment w/o any issues, so you just never know.  I tend not to have any caffeine after noon, due to sleep issues.  I love coffee, so glad you've found a way to enjoy some! FT

D63, if I understand right, you are drinking 4 litres of water a day? That might be the reason for the frequent nightly visits to the bathroom. Even while I was on treatment I think I drunk at most 2 and a half litres of water a day. Try having your last glass of water a couple of hours before your go to sleep.
