Approved for Harvoni & have a question
« on: February 08, 2017, 04:21:03 pm »
OMGoodness!!  I am approved for 12 weeks of Harvoni.  Did you feel the same elation I feel?!  I was diagnosed in 2009 and am genotype 1a.  I'll start on Saturday.
I have questions about the treatment period.  In order not to reinfect myself are razors and toothbrushes changed and how often?  Anything else?  Looking forward to being HepC free.  I appreciate any advice & I'm reading as much as I can on the forum.  Thanks!  :)

Hi, tillyboo --

I used the old stuff until the very last day of my 12-week treatment, when I tossed the toothbrushes (they're worn down after three months anyway) and razor (a throw-away) and sterilized the nail clipper, metal nail file, and tweezers (I often nick myself) in a bleach solution. My labs after four weeks of treatment showed I was already cured, and I'm still undetected as of the last viral load test 50 weeks after treatment ended. Do whatever will put you at ease. Here's hoping you have an easy time on Harvoni (I did).

Gnatty
9/29/71 transfusions
HCV genotype 1a
7/09/15-9/30/15 Harvoni

Before treatment:
Viral Load 9,490,582
FibroScan 19.5 kPa [F4]
ALT 262
AST 217
ALP 183

Most recent:
VL still UNDETECTED (SVR 102)
FibroScan 7.6 kPa [F1-2]
ALT 15
AST 20
ALP 85

Hi Tillyboo,

Congradts on your road to being hep c free.. I too did not do anything special. I used the same tooth brush, razor (and clippers) and changed them at normal intervals.

I think if you see blood on your brush or razor then swapping out seems reasonable.
Harvoni eliminates virus fast so after 4 weeks you will prob be und or at least very low level.
Virus has a short life span and is unable to replicate with Harvoni.

You're almost there.

best,

Greg
