The little things
« on: December 03, 2017, 11:29:17 pm »
Hello all,

My question isn’t so much about the virus but about the little things. Before diagnosed I had a very strong immune system and never fell sick or had any oddities. Since then I’ve noticed over the years that I started to get cold sores and dandruff; I got fungus under my nails, mostly in my feet. My fingernails became brittle and even developed small imperfections and cracks in a few of my fingernails. I’m wondering if anyone else had developed such things and after you were cleared if those things went away once your immune system strengthened again ?  I was diagnosed about 15 years ago and am now on day 10 of Harvoni. My doctor gave me a 56 day treatment and I’m hoping for the best. I haven’t had any real side effects yet and this is my first time being treated. I kind of lived in denial the past decade while waiting for a better cure to come out and now that’s happened I decided to get rid of this menace. Fingers crossed it works, I got all my pills at once so I don’t have to worry about that. I was 7 hours late taking one on day 7 but my specialty pharmacist says not to worry but to not let it happen again. I guess that’s all for today, I’m just really curious if those who are free now have become healthier again and have noticed the little things have healed themselves now your immune systems are stronger again.

Jodaha, I definitely got many more cold viruses before treatment. In the 2.3 years since the hep C became undetected, I think I've had only one cold, and it was mild.

Another change: dental plaque had gotten really bad: no matter how well I brushed and flossed, I got lots of cement-like plaque. There's less plaque now, and it is softer. Others in my Harvoni "class" (people who treated at the same time) noticed that too.

HCV can be responsible for all sorts of other problems. They are called Extrahepatic Manifestations (EHMs).

Best wishes with the rest of your treatment.

9/29/71 transfusions
HCV genotype 1a
7/09/15-9/30/15 Harvoni

Before treatment:
Viral Load 9,490,582
FibroScan 19.5 kPa [F4]
ALT 262
AST 217
ALP 183

Most recent:
VL still UNDETECTED (SVR 102)
FibroScan 7.6 kPa [F1-2]
ALT 15
AST 20
ALP 85

Hi Jodaha. Welcome to the forums and to the treatment journey!

I noticed a various health/body/brain improvements upon clearing the virus 2 years ago - reduction in sinus issues, better mental functioning, reduction in electrosensitivity problem around my computer. I never had much in way of colds or flu before or after treatment, so no change there for me.

Good luck!
