Hi Petra,
Its possible I jumped the gun on this.At the beginning of treatment I ended up in the ER with a slight fever, and UTI .But, primarily  dehydrated.I needed a wheelchair, and I am not a weak person. They were seamless in their care of me.My doc s office, a little less seamless. My head doc said  that IV fluids have shown in studies that people feel less side effects and feel better. Especially if drinking enough water is a challenge. Which is for me because I am in sales on a selling floor.Last Tuesday I went in all ready for a slow drip. 2 1/2 hours. The shunt went in , then the IV and around an hour later a doc came to check and said it wasnt going and the reason was a blood clot had formed. So, I go a second time a few days later, and no fluids go thru again. I wanted to see a doctor before I left that day, but he was busy.I am committed to drinking 4 liters of water a day now. docs want to put me on anti anxiety meds, but I am in last month of meds, and dont want any new meds introduced. even a little and I mean a little xanax can exhaust me the next day.The docs know that riba has strong side effects, I am very clear with ::I can handle stress, its the surprise stress that floors me, like 2 bad IV s in one week.:I have been going there for 20 yeARS  for another problem I have had for 30 years, and its kind of like a second family, yet not. I hope there is no residual effects from the first IV . they didnt put any thinning agents in when they took the IV out.just bad service, I need a new place for an oil change. (haha)

Hi Zeena,

Make sure you drink plenty of water - especially on days when having blood drawn or IV's. Chug-lug lots of water. It will hydrate you, enlarge you veins and make the blood work easier.

Best wishes, Mike

Hi Zeena,

I've had so much blood work in the last few years - including therapeutic phlebotomies using a 20 gauge needle - I felt like a pin cushion.

Drinking plenty of water prior to the blood work makes all the difference for a good draw v. a bad one..

Also, RIBV can dehydrate you and you have to compensate for this by re-hydrating with water. The rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 your body weight in oz per day. So if you weigh 160 lbs, you would drink 80 oz of water per day.

Best wishes, Mike
