New Worries!! Any Experienced advice???
« on: November 28, 2016, 04:38:44 pm »
Well i  was hoping that my worries would subside when i started Harvoni?
Good news is today is day 27 & the Dr. Says it "undetectable" but only 1/3 there..
Ast & Alt are both at 28.
But he ordered an Ultrasound of my abdomen
Which he says is routine & just for screening purposes..
They do ultrasounds to look for Cancer correct??
Has any body had experience with Ultrasounds?
Are they really routine as he says..
My AFP tumor marker was fine & well within range.
Am I just being paranoid.?
I was so happy to start the Harvoni & now im filled with worry again..

Relax.  Ultrasounds just take pictures for overall general organ health.  Any good physician would discuss a concern as serious as your worry.  Most likely they want to look at your liver and kidneys for scar tissue and fatty content.  Mine go wonky now and then (before treatment) and my GI takes a look to be safe. If you have other conditions (diabetes etc.) complicating results, it may be that they are skewing your results as well. And if it makes you feel better, I'm right there with you in the worry department.  Make a list of your concerns and educate yourself.  I sleep better at night when I do that.

Good luck and keep your chin up

It is routine. Maybe he just forgot to run it before starting treatment.

I had one done the same week they did pre-treatment viral load and genotyping. All ordered at same time.

No, its not specifically for cancer. I was hoping it was that fibro-scan  bywhich fibrosis score is determined. But it was just a plain ole ultrasound. It did find some harmless cysts on my liver, which GI said was common n nothing to fret over..

I've become much more phobic about tests too. Ever since that shocking news of learning I had Hep C. Wish I could get better handle on it

A full abdominal ultrasound is standard diagnostic practice for monitoring liver disease including but certainly not limited to HCV.

What they are looking for other than tumors is abnormalities in sizes of organs and the standing pressure of the critical vascular system especially the portal vein to the liver.

My wife works in medical imaging and this is why I know the ropes about MI practices.

Don't at all sweat or worry about having this test done routinely post treatment or anytime it is one that should be done on anyone for very many reasons. NASH, HCC, abnormal blood counts and the list goes on.

Cheers
Eric

I had an ultrasound also before I started treatment. They found a 1.3 cm lesion on my liver and scheduled an mri to follow up. I was terrified! When they did the mri, the lesion was gone. YAY!

Hi Redhead..

Just out of curiosity how did the lesion just disappear?
Is that normal or is it just because he ultrasound isn't that clear? Just wondering but glad that was the outcome for you.

I don't know. The Dr.'s argued about it for two weeks. The ultrasound showed it clearly, I seen it with my own eyes. The mri didn't show it. I lost 15 pounds after the ultrasound so maybe it was fat or something that disappeared.

Yes to piggy back on everyone else, it's normal for your doctor to order an ultrasound. I also had one.

Thanks all..
Had the scan & the tech said everthing looked fine!
Actually said everything looks good?
Yet my fibroscan cane back F3-F4?
Dr. Ordered another fibroscan.
I did not fast for the first he said it didnt matter but after much research it MAKES A big difference.
Either way im on week 6
Its undetectable, ive gotta so much natural color back in my face & body, feel super, much energy, & almost like the fog has lifted..
I dont think i realized how much of a toll it was taking on my body because it happens so slowly over time.
Actually my appetite is crazy.
I lost almost 30lbs & thought it was just due to 4am - 4pm work days & not eating much?
Now i cant stop eating..?
Dont want to get fat though lol..
Thats not healthy either!
This really is amazing

StillChoppin,

I am on Epclusa but like you I seem to eat more. I gained weight and am trying to keep it under control. I never considered a drug might increase appetite. I am 3 weeks until EOT. I am very curious what my new normal will be. I hope less less food craving will be a new normal. rk
